South Of Heaven (Live)
06:49
|
|||
Long ago before the west was won
Before the streams and mountains before Oswald had his gun
A man walked all alone at night in chains
Guilty of the apathy but he was not to blame
For the crime they say he carried out that day
Not a chance to tell his story, not a chance to plead his case
From the gallows pole he’s looking for the door
Ain’t no mercy south of heaven anymore
Long ago before the tide had turned
Before New York City and before the flag was burned
A woman sweeps a sidewalk in the rain
Guilty of the empathy but she was not to blame
For the sleepless nights and crying on the phone
The drunken fights and beatings she endured
Couldn’t help but laugh when reaching for the door
Ain’t no mercy south of heaven anymore
Long ago before the cowboys crooned
Before Elivs had the kernel
And the white man owned the moon
A blind man walks on broken glass in shame
Guilty of the misery but he was not to blame
For the paradise he’d made up in his mind
The darkness wasn’t part of his design
They found his body mangled on the floor
Ain’t no mercy south of heaven anymore
Long ago before the winds did shift
Before Jesus walked on water and columbus had his ship
A building burns and it’s flame can’t be contained
Guilty of the bloodshed but it was not to blame
For the black cloud living deep inside your mind
It’s hard to love yourself when all you do is get denied
Another morning waking on the floor
AIn’t no mercy south of heaven anymore
Long ago before the towers fell
Before rock n roll had lost its soul
I remember oh so well
Two lovers walked the roadside all the same
Guilty of the empathy but they were not to blame
For the dreams that they bought and then they sold
The priest walked by with a crown of solid gold
Signing autographs and heading for the door
Ain’t no mercy south of heaven anymore

Angel #44 (Live)

Down in the flood of city rain
And you're feeling all that pain
In the shadow of streetlight
When the moon hits just right
And I know
It hurts you so
And I know
Goddamn the cold
I'd follow you down a million times
And I'd go a million more
As long as there is you and me
What else could I ask for
I tried to write a letter
But my pencil wouldn't write
So if you would
Stay with me tonight
Locked down and busted there we were
Patiently waiting for the herd
God came to me and he spoke
Said "This woman's heart ain't no joke"
I'd follow you down a million times
And I'd go a million more
As long as there is you and me
What else could I ask for
I tried to write a letter
But my pencil wouldn't write
So if you would
Stay with me tonight

It could have been worse
He said with a grin
As long as those red dollar bills keep coming
My thoughts and my prayers
Will help you to heal
And make you feel grateful
For just standing here
How can we live while knowing
While the cracks in our ceilings are showing
And the flowers of uvlade are growing
How can we live with ourselves?
They came with their kevlar
And black armored cars
And loaded their guns to watch from a far
The mothers they pleaded
For some kind relief
While innocent children
Lay dead on the street
How can we live while knowing
While the cracks in our ceilings are showing
And the flowers of uvlade are growing
How can we live with ourselves?
By the threads of their shoes
They could identify
Who took the bullet and who paid the price
So pray all you want
It can’t justify
Was the youth of today
Just born to die?
How can we live while knowing
While the cracks in our ceilings are showing
And the flowers of uvlade are growing
How can we live with ourselves?

Boston Town (Live)
04:02
|

Working all day to pay my way
Can never find the time
To take off a load and rest my bones
And let my mind unwind
Until there came a day
In the month of May
You should’ve heard the sound
Call for a show
I had to go
Way up in Boston town
Well I packed my bags
Popped my tags
And kissed my darling goodbye
Said I’d be back in a couple days
There’s no reason to cry
Hopped a cab
Made it there
To the station that greyhound
I saw the noise
And heard a voice
Next stop is Boston town
My back was aching and my neck was stiff
Watching city fade to sky
And I knew in my heart that his words were true
This time will be right
A history of dishonesty
20 years of hanging round
But all this mess would be put to rest
Next stop is Boston town
At 12:01
The time had come
To get up on that stage
The vultures cried out
Enraged no doubt
Play something that we can sing
And it was then I knew
What I had to do
To make that soulful sound
So I grabbed my pipe, sparked a light
To serenade that Boston town
Tangled up in misery
With trouble on my mind
The boys and girls misunderstood
And I couldn’t believe my eyes
To them I was the jester
A pawn to push around
And it was then I knew in my heart so cold
I had to leave that Boston town
That greyhound shined in the Sunday sun
As I headed homeward bound
The conductor asked with a smirk and grin
What exactly did go down
I threw up my hands and hung my head
“Full speed, take me south”
To a city where I can fade away
Far from this Boston town

Well St.Peter
Jeanne and Me
We were happy as can be
But time went on
I was absentee
Now that phone
It don’t ring
If I had a dollar
For every time I said I’d call her
I’d be the richest loser on the hill
Please believe me when I say
I think about you everyday
I loved you then
And you know I love you still
Well the time
It moved like mountains
Across the borders of my mind
And I can’t speak for the others
But I still feel like I’m gonna die
And If I had a rose
For every time I said I’d go
Everytime I didn’t know just what to say
Please believe me when I say
I regret this everyday
I loved you then
And you know my love remains
So St. Peter
Hear my call
I’ve got nothing
That you’d want
Please don’t take her
Away from me
I’m as lonesome as can be
If I had a dollar
For every time I said I’d call her
I’d be the richest loser on the hill
Please believe me when I say
I think about you everyday
I loved you thenn
And you know I love you still
